About the role

The Menlo Labs Investment Associate will conduct due diligence on opportunity spaces and specific ideas, focusing on the market environment, industry dynamics, stakeholder ecosystem, and competitive landscape. Deliverables will include articulating the opportunity, the upside potential, downside risks, and key open questions that need to be answered to gain conviction on an investment and for the company to succeed. The Associate will be a part of the core Menlo Labs team and help drive important investment decisions. This role will be based out of either the San Francisco Bay Area (preferred) or New York City, with expectations to be on-site with local teammates 1 or 2 days per week (estimate).

Goals of the role

Conduct due diligence on new potential opportunities
Provide insights to enable the Labs team to decide whether to start/fund a company
Identify whitespaces or vulnerabilities in market leaders
Increase the team’s level of intelligence around areas of interest
Support founder networking and deal sourcing efforts

Responsibilities

Support the Labs team in developing investment memos
Deliver market landscape and competitive analyses
Leverage secondary research to surface trends that may point to new opportunities
Support Labs portfolio company fundraising efforts through pitch deck development
Develop repository for /tracking industry trends/benchmarks & keep team informed

Qualifications

3+ years experience working at a top-tier investment bank or venture capital firm
Research skills
Financial modeling capabilities
MBA a plus
Technical background & expertise is a plus
Demonstrated passion for technology, startups and venture capital ecosystem
Local to either the San Francisco Bay Area, CA or New York, NY. Bay Area preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary of $140,000 – $190,000 depending on experience, plus bonus
