Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent/relevant experience is required.
  • A minimum of 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience is required.
  • The employee must be willing to work in a damp environment.
  • The employee must be available to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy are required.
  • The employee must be able to complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • The employee must be able to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • The employee must be able to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • The employee must be able to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
  • Participation in the department’s Emergency Response Team as Essential Personnel is required.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain clean work areas and sanitize, disinfect, and prepare animal rooms and supplies.
  • Prepare cages, bedding, feed, water, personal protective equipment, and equipment to maintain the animals and facility.
  • Maintain and operate cage washers, rack washers, the hydropac machine, bottle fillers, and other associated animal-care equipment.
  • Maintain associated logs and records to document all aspects of the work.
  • Remove and dispose of waste.
  • Assist with animal deliveries and transportation.
  • Receive, store, and stock supplies according to established standard operating procedures.
  • Assemble, autoclave, and prepare animal equipment and supplies.
  • Verify autoclave temperatures and maintain accurate logs.
  • Disinfect and sanitize animal rooms, corridors, and animal areas, including cage- and rack-washing areas.
  • Power-wash large animal areas.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
  • American Association for Laboratory Animal Science certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level is preferred and will be strongly encouraged.
  • Knowledge of animal research facilities and experience working in environments that support multiple animal species, including Non-Human Primates and Virus Antigen Free rodents, is a plus.
