Requirements
  • Nursing students must have prospective spring, summer, or winter graduation dates and be eligible to sit for the NCLEX and obtain licensure before the internship starts.
  • Nursing students must have emergency-department or prehospital-care experience, or be completing a senior practicum in an emergency department, or have a minimum 3.2 GPA.
  • Experienced registered nurses without emergency-department experience may apply.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support certification.
  • Hold a current registered-nurse license to practice in Pennsylvania, or in New Jersey for the Warren Campus.
  • Be able to meet the stated physical and sensory requirements, including prolonged sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, patient transport, and required hearing, vision, reach, bending, and touch perception abilities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care through the nursing process by assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, evaluating, and documenting the effects of care.
  • Work cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient-team personnel to maintain professional nursing-practice standards.
  • Maintain confidentiality of materials handled within the network and entity and ensure proper release of information.
  • Demonstrate the network's service-excellence standards in interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Comply with network and departmental attendance and dress-code policies.
  • Demonstrate competency in patient assessment, treatment range, growth and development knowledge, and age-appropriate communication.
  • Upon successful completion of the internship, practice caring for patients across their lifespans in a St. Luke's emergency department.
