Requirements
  • An Associate's degree in a related field is required.
  • The candidate must be Oncology Data Specialist Certified by the National Cancer Registrars Association.
  • The candidate must adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations and virtual office procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Perform case finding, data abstraction, and follow-up for patients diagnosed with cancer.
  • Perform clinical data abstraction by capturing complete patient history, diagnosis, staging, and treatment information for patients accessioned into the cancer registry in accordance with American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and Georgia Central State Cancer Registry guidelines.
  • Apply cancer data collection principles and assign codes to extracted data using STORE, SEER, ICD-O-3, and AJCC Staging 8th Edition coding systems.
  • Perform assigned quality assurance activities, including reviewing abstracted data for accuracy, conducting peer reviews, resolving data edits, conducting non-reportable audits, consolidating multiple data reports into a concise record for each cancer case, and adding treatment and follow-up information obtained after the initial abstract.
  • Attend and participate in professional conferences, seminars, or workshops to maintain current knowledge related to the Cancer Registry and cancer treatment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
