Director of Simulation @ Motional

Mission Summary

Motional is seeking a talented engineering leader to join our organization to expand Motional’s AV simulation testing capabilities reporting to our VP of Cloud, Apps, Tools & Test. This creative and energetic individual will help us make the future of autonomous systems a reality and to expand our growing global footprint in self-driving cars.

*Preferred office location is Pittsburgh or Boston but would consider remote with 40% travel*

What you’ll be doing:

Lead a team to develop comprehensive automated simulation test suites that enable rapid quantitative autonomy performance results
Own off vehicle simulation testing strategy
Drive the software development for all the supporting tools for this activity: simulation, resimulation, metrics, etc.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to a large group of highly skilled engineers
Continually evaluate simulation tool features suggesting tool improvements or requesting additional features to improve scenario generation and simulation results
Collaborating with cross team stakeholders to address simulation requests and continually update stakeholders on simulation performance and results
Responsible for the professional growth of your team members

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent knowledge and work experience.
10+ years professional experience
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Experience leading large engineering teams as well as successfully leading cross team projects
Working knowledge of software development lifecycle, testing processes and QA methodologies
Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to think logically and remove bias from evaluation of problems
Experience using simulation products such as CarSim, TruckSim, ANSYS, dSpace, Siemens for ADAS,
Past experience owning and leading technical development on features from problem formulation through implementation and deployment
Ability to collaborate with cross team stakeholders

Bonus points:

Good practical understanding of Robotics principles: localization, motion planning, CV, etc.
Hands on SW development experience
Experience with simulation testing within autonomous vehicle industry
Experience defining ODD

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs. The estimated compensation range listed in this job posting reflects base salary only. This role may include additional forms of compensation such as a bonus or company equity. Salary Range

$205,000—$282,200 USD
