Job Summary Assists secondary vocational education teachers in the delivery of training and instructional programs to students with disabilities. Provides support to special education students assigned to industry-based training programs by orienting students to specific job tasks and coaching them in work ready behavior. Monitors students’ classroom and on-the-job learning activities and documenting student progress and/or problems. Encourages students in the development and improvement of interpersonal, social and employability skills. Essential Functions • Assists the career and technical education instructor in the implementation and delivery of the vocational education program. • Interprets in the instructor’s directions for students and assists them in completing assigned tasks. • Provides reinforcement of theory lessons, skills and safety techniques. • Circulates through the classroom and/or school/facility as required by work assignment. • Provides support to students assigned to industry-based training programs. • Orients students to job site and basic organizational rules. • Trains students in specific job skills while on the job. • Inspects work for adherence to quality control specifications. • Coaches students in peer and supervisory relationships. • Monitors students’ job performance and reports progress and/or problems to immediate supervisor. • Provides training to special education students in the use of mechanical tools, measuring instruments and equipment. • Inventories and issues materials and tools to students. • Oversees and monitors students cleaning the work areas. • Assists in mobility training. • Assists in the selection of instructional aids and materials. • Assists the instructor in skills demonstrations.

Minimum Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent. • Two yeas of full-time experience working with secondary age youth or adults with disabilities. OR • Two years of full-time experience working in a skilled trade area. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Demonstrated knowledge of\: o appropriate work habits, social skills and attitudes necessary for successful adjustment to a work environment. o basic math skills, including measurement, decimals and fractions. • Demonstrated ability to\: o follow and interpret step by step instructions and provide necessary guidance to special education students in doing the same. o learn to adapt training methods to the abilities of students with disabilities. o exercise patience and understanding in providing emotional support and encouragement to special education students. o communicate effectively both orally and in writing. o establish and maintain effective working relationships.
