Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant.
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and current licensure or eligibility for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • No prior experience is required; the fellowship is geared toward new graduates and experienced APPs changing practice specialties.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required before the start date.
  • If applicable, DHEC and Drug Enforcement Administration license applications must be started before the first day.
  • The APP must maintain licenses, certifications, continuing nursing education or continuing medical education, and other credentials required by applicable policies and state law.
  • The APP must be physically qualified for respirator use, maintain 20/40 corrected vision, work in a latex-safe indoor environment, and be able to perform the stated standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stair climbing, reaching, hand-use, repetitive-motion, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care by taking comprehensive histories and performing physical examinations.
  • Evaluate and treat patients using history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope-of-practice guideline.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures in accordance with approved procedural privileges, skills, and proficiency.
  • Initiate referrals to other health care providers and consult with the attending or collaborating physician.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided when appropriate.
  • Use current research and evidence-based decision-making in clinical practice.
  • Perform and participate in quality and performance improvement activities and clinical research.
  • Participate in the organization's accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities.
  • Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through participation in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Attend education and academic sessions designated by the APP Fellowship Coordinator or APP Fellowship Director.
  • Complete presentations, lectures, quality improvement projects, and other academic requirements established by the APP Fellowship Director or department.
  • Participate in required APP Fellowship activities.
  • Perform dermatology procedures including skin biopsy, potassium hydroxide examination, scabies preparation, cryotherapy, intralesional injection, suturing, topical and injectable local anesthetics, debridement, ultraviolet light therapy, and curettage and electrodessication.
