Job Description:
Come work with Oregon’s Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO)! Our mission is to provide professional nonpartisan staffing, analysis, and research to support and inform policymaking. LPRO is known for comprehensive, objective, and informative policy research and analysis. LPRO is seeking strong research candidates who are policy generalists. This recruitment is for a Senior Research Analyst who will work collaboratively with the LPRO team to provide high-quality research, including data analysis, data visualizations, and reports to support decision-makers in the legislative branch. Senior Research Analysts work on multidisciplinary teams and independent projects to ensure legislators have the information they need.
A Senior Research Analyst provides
- public policy research, analysis, and consultation to policy committees, legislators, and their staff, including preparing objective, non-partisan, analytical studies
- appropriate research methodology design and support for legislative staff to gather, compile, and analyze data and information
- lead support for multi-disciplinary team research projects during the interim period between legislative sessions
Required Skills
- adapt and apply formal research methods and principles to research problems
- experience with and understanding of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods approaches to research
- gather, compile, and analyze structured and unstructured data
- produce thorough and accurate results in short timeframes
- strong oral communication skills
- strong writing, research, and presentation skills, including synthesizing complex analyses into easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience leading teams in completing multiple complex projects effectively and on time.
The primary work location for this position is in Salem, Oregon. The work of the Senior Research Analyst is in-person and may allow for a hybrid work schedule, dependent on the time of year. There may be an opportunity for occasional telework depending on work assignments and the needs of the Legislative Assembly.

HOW TO QUALIFY:
Your application must demonstrate:
A master’s or doctoral level degree in a social science discipline that included six-semester or nine-quarter units in any combination of a data-driven research related field, such as economics, mathematics, psychology, sociology, demography, political science, geography, anthropology, statistics, data science or a research-related field. This must include at least one course in statistical methods and research design. AND
7 years of progressively responsible qualitative and quantitative data research experience engaging in the collection, compilation, manipulation, analysis, and interpretation of data; AND
3-5 years of demonstrated experience designing and executing complex research projects designed to inform policy decisions; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.

SPECIAL INFORMATION:
- Over the next two years, the Capitol Building will be undergoing extensive renovation and construction projects which may limit accessibility to employees. This will require Legislative employees to work both from home and within other off-site buildings as the construction project dictates. While working from home, personal, stable, and high-speed internet access will be required to perform the functions of this position. There may be occasions that require employees scheduled to be working from home, to report to the Capitol or other offsite building. Every effort will be made to provide reasonable notice. However, employees may be required to report to the building under short notice. The Capitol building is located at 900 Court Street NE, Salem, OR 97301.

- The salary in this job posting reflects the base salary without contributions to the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). Employees eligible for PERS will have their salary increased by roughly 6.95% and 6% will be automatically be subject to a mandatory employee contribution to PERS.
