Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of relevant experience is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ocular anatomy, function, and motility is required.
  • Ability to perform patient workups using an electronic medical record telehealth platform is required.
  • Competency in ophthalmic subspecialty patient workups is required.
  • Ability to prepare patients for intravitreal injections is required.
  • Ability to function as an ophthalmic scribe is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Ability to work with patients of all age groups and communicate effectively verbally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, complete assignments accurately, work independently, and collaborate is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform and document patient information and clinical testing in the electronic medical record, including visual fields, ocular motility, pupillary evaluation, ocular surface assessment, medication and allergy review, intraocular pressure, pachymetry, patient history, contact lens insertion and removal, visual acuity, color vision, lensometry, stereopsis, manual refraction, sensorimotor exams, perimetry, Humphrey visual fields, virtual reality visual fields, and Amsler Grid visual fields.
  • Provide documentation support to providers in patient charts as directed for patient care.
  • Provide patient-centric care while complying with University of Miami policies, regulations, patient confidentiality requirements, patient-safety practices, hand hygiene, and infection-control procedures.
  • Attend assigned educational courses for ophthalmic personnel.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, professional, and thorough work and meet daily productivity goals.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
  • Participate in assigned clinical research and maintain required certifications.
  • Organize and stock rooms for daily clinical activities.
  • Travel to satellite eye centers when necessary.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Perform organizational duties as assigned.
  • Complete intravitreal injection preparation for patients.
  • Facilitate motility examinations.
  • Support virtual-care encounters and examinations.
