Requirements
  • The incumbent must be contracted as an Associate Financial Representative and complete the appropriate registration requirements.
  • Series 6 and Series 63 registration are required in applicable states for work with variable annuities, variable life insurance, and mutual funds.
  • Series 7 registration is required for work with equities, fixed income, options, brokered certificates of deposit, and U.S. Treasuries.
  • Series 65 or Series 66 registration is required.
  • The employee must be licensed in health and life insurance or obtain the licensing within six months of employment.
  • An Associate Financial Representative contract is required.
  • The employee must demonstrate the ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain necessary information and specific instructions from the financial advisor for input into the PX system.
  • Open PX files and provide required input for all sections and modules.
  • Input each security's value and cost-basis information into the corresponding account.
  • Contact investment specialists or the Office of the Executive Director to classify unclassified holdings.
  • Input the risk-tolerance questionnaire and select the customization level.
  • Verify that paperwork is completed correctly and relay missing information to the advisor.
  • Handle case notes and correspondence, maintain client case files, and file new statements, account forms, and other insurance- and investment-related materials.
  • Maintain the financial representative's calendar and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Respond to home-office inquiries.
  • Monitor and stock marketing materials for insurance and investment-related materials.
  • Ensure National Marketing and Insurance Services and insurance compliance requirements are implemented and followed.
  • Maintain annual review notes in Envestnet and mail annual review letters to clients when contracted as Investment Operations Staff.
  • Prospect for new advisory clients on behalf of the employing financial advisor.
  • Gather information for the financial advisor's meetings with clients and prospects.
  • Prepare advisory annual review information.
  • Prepare and modify PPA and investment or advisory proposals.
  • Prepare letters of instruction for client signature.
  • Prepare investment policy statements, needs-based analyses, or financial plans.
  • Recommend fund portfolio options.
  • Prepare and process all paperwork needed for investment and advisory accounts.
  • Identify the need for switch letters and mail the appropriate forms to clients.
  • Discuss potential rollover opportunities from other retirement plans for variable and mutual funds.
  • Receive and forward checks and related paperwork to the investment operations area.
  • Process proposal amendments in Envestnet.
  • Monitor Envestnet for alerts and upcoming annual reviews.
  • Process and monitor the funding of advisory accounts and asset transfers to ensure the selected asset allocation is implemented when contracted as Investment Operations Staff.
  • Correspond with clients to handle advisory-related service issues.
  • Formulate advisory product solutions for clients or explain advisory products and advisory performance.
  • Accept client redemptions and withdrawals and communicate instructions to the home office.
  • Discuss tax consequences, costs, and advisory fees with clients.
  • Maintain the daily tickler system for account follow-ups and service requirements.
  • Perform cashiering functions.
  • Run performance reports in Envestnet, Morningstar, and NMCIR.

Gen Z and millennials delay life milestones as 72% postpone major goals due to financial pressures

Financial pressures are forcing many young Americans to postpone or abandon major life milestones, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2026 Planning & Progress Study. Nearly three in four Gen Z adults and more than half of Millennials have delayed at least one significant milestone due to financial challenges. The impact is particularly acute for homeownership and family planning. Thirty-one per cent of Gen Z respondents have postponed buying a house, whilst 24% have delayed having children. Among those who have become parents, over 70% spend as much or more on their children monthly as they do on housing. Artificial intelligence is adding to concerns, with 46% of Gen Z and 32% of Millennials pessimistic about its impact on their careers. Despite these challenges, younger generations are responding proactively. Gen Z and Millennials started saving for retirement at ages 22 and 28 respectively, years earlier than previous generations, and seek professional financial guidance at higher rates.

53% of millennials not financially independent from parents, average age now 37

More than half of millennials (53%) are not fully financially independent from their parents, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2025 Consumer Sentiment Survey. Americans now expect to achieve financial independence at age 37 on average. Record housing costs, student loan debt and gaps in financial preparedness are the primary obstacles. Among millennials, 43% lack a retirement account, 66% don't have an emergency fund, and 31% lack savings accounts altogether. Meanwhile, 74% of parents are considering or planning to provide financial support to help their children move out. The survey, conducted by The Harris Poll between 5 and 21 January 2026, included 4,375 US adults aged 18 or older. Northwestern Mutual's chief strategy officer called the findings "a massive wake-up call for America".
