Requirements
  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 7 years progressive related experience
  • Experience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting
  • Ability to work underground is required
  • Ability to work well with others, as they will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with planning/organizing skills and initiative, and be capable of employing independent judgment and knowledge to ensure that requirements are completed efficiently and on time
  • Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks
  • Experience working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision in a dynamic multidisciplinary project environment with simultaneous commitments to performance, cost, and schedule
  • Experience using standard office software products
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team
  • Must be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber optics
  • The primary work location will be in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (forward areas are approximately 90 miles from North Las Vegas) with some work occasionally performed at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The PULSE facility is located in the forward areas of the NNSS.
  • Frequent travel to the NNSS forward areas is required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate).
  • Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change)
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age.
Responsibilities
  • Install, operate, and maintain pulsed power machines used as primary diagnostics on subcritical experiments (SCEs)
  • Install, maintain, validate, repair control systems and associated instrumentation in research and development settings
  • Assemble, install, and configure vacuum subsystems according to procedures and system schematics
  • Assemble and align mechanical systems, electromechanical systems, and ancillary mechanical structures associated with pulsed power machines
  • Setup, configure, operate, and test high voltage electronic systems, with a fundamental understanding of pulsed power systems and associated hazards and safeguards
  • Collaborate with multiple internal and external organizations to field and characterize the Scorpius linear induction accelerator in North Las Vegas and the NNSS
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management
