Electro-Mechanical Senior Technologist

• Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 5 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 7 years’ progressive related experience.
• Experience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting.

• Must be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber optics.
• The primary work location will be in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (forward areas are approximately 90 miles from North Las Vegas) with some work occasionally performed at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The PULSE facility is located in the forward areas of the NNSS.
• Frequent travel to the NNSS forward areas is required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate).
• Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
• Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license. 

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted.  Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Hourly salary range for this position is: $34.53 - $51.80.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity. 

MSTS is seeking an experienced Electro-Mechanical Technologist (Sr. Technologist) to support engineers, scientists, and senior technicians with the installation, operation, and maintenance of pulsed power machines, neutron and high-energy x-ray generating devices, to interrogate on subcritical experiments (SCEs) at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experiments (PULSE) facility. This position is based in Nevada but requires significant upfront travel to Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory prior to the accelerator arriving in North Las Vegas for integration testing and final installation and operation at the PULSE facility located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS).

Key Responsibilities

• Install, operate, and maintain pulsed power machines used as primary diagnostics on subcritical experiments (SCEs) .
• Install, maintain, validate, repair control systems and associated instrumentation in research and development settings.
• Assemble, install, and configure vacuum subsystems according to procedures and system schematics.
• Assemble and align mechanical systems, electromechanical systems, and ancillary mechanical structures associated with pulsed power machines.
• Setup, configure, operate, and test high voltage electronic systems, with a fundamental understanding of pulsed power systems and associated hazards and safeguards.
• Collaborate with multiple internal and external organizations to field and characterize the Scorpius linear induction accelerator in North Las Vegas and the NNSS.
• Perform other duties assigned by Management.
