Requirements
  • Culinary knowledge and experience with cooking techniques to create high-quality dishes.
  • Several years of experience as a professional chef, progressing through various kitchen roles, including hands-on experience with culinary techniques, food preparation, and kitchen operations.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a culinary setting, such as Sous Chef, Kitchen Supervisor, or Lead Cook; experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in culinary management or a related field.
  • A valid Food Safety/Food Handler’s Certification.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and proper handling of ingredients.
  • Smart Serve Certification or a provincial equivalent.
  • Strong computer skills for inventory management, menu-planning software, and communication.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, cost control, inventory management, and optimizing food costs.
  • A complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or willingness to obtain one.
Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, and oversee culinary and service professionals.
  • Manage the culinary and dining department while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, National Director, Regional Managers of Culinary, and residents to translate culinary visions into actionable plans.
  • Lead the culinary team, oversee financials, and prioritize resident satisfaction.
  • Create high-quality meals with diverse menus, premium ingredients, and impeccable presentation.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, ensure compliance, cultivate relationships, and drive culinary innovation.
  • Maintain an elevated dining experience and contribute to the success of the culinary program.
