Requirements
  • An associate degree in Physical Therapy Assistant Technology from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) or equivalent accredited program is required.
  • A current unencumbered Ohio license to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant is required.
  • Experience caring for geriatric and physical therapy patients is required.
  • Knowledge of treatment modalities is required.
  • The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required.
  • The candidate must be insurable under professional liability and crime coverage policies specified by insurance carrier underwriting standards.
  • The role requires the ability to lift, transfer, push, or pull patients and equipment or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The role is subject to exposure to infectious waste and diseases, including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses, and is classified as Risk Category I for bloodborne disease exposure.
Responsibilities
  • Implement the Plan of Care developed by the Physical Therapist and treat patients according to physician orders.
  • Communicate with the Physical Therapist, physician, and pertinent staff about physical or medical concerns related to the Plan of Care so it can be revised as the patient's condition requires.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team and Physical Therapist in implementing patient assessments using OASIS.
  • Educate and instruct patients, family members, and other health team members on exercise-program techniques, precautions, and self-care activities to ensure caregiver and patient safety.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings by exchanging information about patient progress and discharge plans.
  • Participate in plan-of-care meetings to communicate patient progress and discharge plans to patients, family members, and patient advocates.
  • Conduct home visits to implement patients' Plans of Care and guide patients in therapeutic and self-care activities to improve function and safety and support their remaining at home at their highest level of function and independence.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and safe work areas, treatment areas, and equipment.
  • Organize and perform physical therapy treatments in accordance with company productivity standards.
  • Maintain current and accurate patient records through electronic medical record documentation in accordance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Maintain compliance with standards, regulations, and rules pertinent to the services provided.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient information and honor patients' personal and property rights.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience as a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant in a hospital, long-term care facility, or home health agency is preferred.
