Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree, such as a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science, in a numerate, scientific, or engineering subject, or equivalent higher education, training, and experience.
  • Chartered Engineer or Technician membership, or equivalent professional status from a recognised institution.
  • Extensive experience in engineering or technical functions, including experience as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer or Engineering Manager on major infrastructure or transportation projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver work on time to programme.
  • Project and team-running experience in a UK consultancy, client, or contractor organisation.
  • Relationship management skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate with key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Engineering, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience working in an engineering production environment.
  • Knowledge of UK design standards, such as Network Rail, HS2, Transport for London, and National Highways.
  • Management skills, including the ability to support, mentor, and motivate a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulations, including Construction Design and Management, Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment, and Railway Industry Requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Take the lead engineering role in managing the Mechanical design team for Egis Transportation in the UK.
  • Support the growth of Mechanical design services in the UK and internationally across a range of projects.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, legislation, company standards, and client procedures.
  • Support team growth through recruitment of technical and staff members and manage the mentoring of junior engineers.
  • Act as the Mechanical Contractor’s Responsible Engineer within rail projects when required, with responsibility for technical mechanical deliverables across the project.
  • Plan and coordinate the activities of the mechanical design team, including computer-aided design, building information modelling, engineers, and expert resources.
  • Liaise with the client team on related issues and decisions, represent design teams in meetings, and provide technical opinion or support when needed.
  • Review design documentation proactively to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
  • Review, evaluate, and implement industry standards to ensure engineering deliverables comply with quality requirements.
  • Coordinate quality aspects of mechanical subsystem deliverables according to the project Quality Management Plan principles.
  • Review and approve deliverables where applicable and act as a technical control level across projects.
  • Maintain and develop team competency through competency assessments, professional reviews, training plans, guidance, mentoring, and support for the senior team in growing the discipline’s technical capability.
  • Support the senior team in implementing efficient processes for safety assurance, including Construction Design and Management, Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment, and interoperability, as well as Verification and Validation technical assurance.
  • Promote sustainable design and development through eco-design.
  • Promote and encourage innovation.
  • Support bidding opportunities across the UK and international business to grow revenue and capability.
  • Work on projects for multiple commissions across the UK and international business.
  • Act as Technical Lead for specific assignments.
  • Act as Technical Lead for projects, with responsibility for all Engineering Design Consultancy production activities and outputs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of railway infrastructure or highway systems and their operating requirements.
  • Understanding of interdisciplinary working within a rail or highway environment.
  • Experience working on design-and-build projects.
  • Clear understanding of a multidisciplinary design approach and delivering projects to a high quality throughout all design stage gates.
  • Experience working with offshore global design production centres.
  • Appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works, including low-carbon design.
  • Understanding of relevant building information modelling standards, design integration procedures, and legislation.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance.
