About The Role & Team
Amplitude is looking for a Head of Revenue Accounting and Operationswho is highly motivated to learn and grow within the organization and proven ability to thrive successfully in a fast paced multi-task oriented environment. This is a high-profile position that will play a critical role in continuing to build, scale and mature the revenue accounting function including accounting operations (order management / billings and collections).
We are looking for a person who is highly motivated, great executer and leader to manage an existing team, continue to grow it, build in scalable processes and work directly with the field on high profile contracts. You will work closely with our main stakeholders in supporting the ongoing activities of the revenue generation including sales, sales ops, finance, deal desk and legal. This role will report to the Corporate Controller.
As the Head of Revenue Accounting and Operations, you will:
- Ensure that our revenue related accounting records are closed timely and accurately in compliance with our accounting policies, and that our accounting records contain the information necessary to meet our reporting requirements to internal management and to support US GAAP reporting requirements.
- Oversee the team in preparation and maintenance of revenue related monthly close activities and accounting variance analysis. Lead the team to ensure the development, modification and maintenance of internal controls within accounting processes to ensure the accuracy and objectivity of our consolidated financial records and statements, including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
- Provide thought leadership, guidance, and strategy on technical revenue recognition matters; providing counsel to your team members and other cross functional teams including sales, deal desk and legal on how to apply revenue recognition guidelines for SaaS and other offerings.
- Working directly with sales, legal and deal desk on deal structuring to ensure compliance with GAAP but also help facilitate growth of the business and regular communication and partnership with the finance to ensure revenue forecasting accuracy
- Scale the revenue accounting operations team as the company continues it’s growth trajectory.
- Maintain and enhance processes and controls around revenue related financial metrics that are disclosed in periodically published documents.
- Create efficiencies in accounting processes by implementing technology solutions and automation.
- Contribute to the development of accounting solutions for enterprise deals, new product offerings and process simplification and improvements.
- Determine proper accounting treatment pursuant to the Company’s Revenue Recognition Policy based upon the interpretation of customer contracts.
- Assist the Finance team with top line and revenue dependent metric forecasting
You’ll be a great addition to the team if you have:
- 10+ years of progressive experience within the finance operations and accounting organization; preferably within a high-growth environment; multi-national experience with at least $200m in annual revenues required.
- Minimum of 6 years in a leadership/management position in an accounting organization, with demonstrated ability and track record of success in driving change and improving operations.
- SaaS revenue recognition experience and detailed understanding
- Operational experience including history of leading revenue operations such as order management and billings and collections
- Experience with Netsuite and Salesforce is strongly preferred. Experience with system implementation is preferred.
- CPA strongly preferred
- Experience with a Big-4 or equivalent national accounting firm is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with and influence management and contributors at all levels of the organization and across functions.
- A proven leader in training and developing high-performing teams; a proactive leader and effective coach committed to the development and engagement of their team.
- Strong interpersonal skills: the ability to build relationships, a good listener with outstanding interpersonal influencing qualities and a natural, effective consultative style.
