Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography, or an associate's degree and certificate in diagnostic medical sonography, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Registration or registry eligibility by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography upon hire.
  • Non-registered sonographers must obtain American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography Abdominal and OB/GYN certifications within one year.
Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures, including abdominal, small parts, gynecological, abdominal and peripheral vascular, portable, and interventional examinations.
  • Complete training and work under regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior sonographer.
  • Follow department infrastructure, policies, protocols, workflows, procedures, and routines after orientation.
  • Scan patients safely and efficiently, complete associated paper and computer work, and discharge patients with appropriate post-ultrasound instructions.
  • Perform ultrasound imaging and therapy according to applicable scope and standards of practice and organizational policies, values, and mission.
  • Adjust equipment controls to produce high-quality images and prepare and present them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures and treatments.
  • Prepare the room and patient for each examination, review patient history and physician orders, and work efficiently and safely in the ultrasound environment.
  • Maintain accurate patient records by properly identifying images and ensuring they are sent correctly to the PACS system.
  • Perform and evaluate equipment quality-control measurements and follow safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
