Position Overview
Adaptive Biotechnologies’ Cellular Research and Innovation Department in South San Francisco is seeking a highly skilled and diligent Senior Scientist who has an innovative spirit, actively seeks to solve problems, and challenges the status quo. This role, reporting into and collaborating closely with the Associate Director, Cellular innovation, must excel in a collaborative and cross-functional team environment and is expected to conceive, implement, and manage scientific projects that contribute to preclinical drug development and to the progress of new technologies. This role is tightly linked to Adaptive’s mission to transform the treatment of immune-mediated diseases including cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious disease. More specifically, the Senior Scientist will be responsible for discovering T cell receptors (TCRs) and antigens relevant to diseases of high unmet medical need, and for assessing their feasibility as cellular and antibody-like therapies. This role offers exposure and collaborative opportunities across cellular, molecular, and computational biology researchers as well as to the business components of our organization. This role will have multiple scientific and career development and leadership opportunities; the successful Senior Scientist will have the opportunity to present to and collaborate with VP and C-suite level scientists and leaders. The Senior Scientist will have ample prospect to be a high impact trailblazer in the emerging field of TCR therapies.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Designs, implements, execute, and oversee scientific research projects.
- Independently reviews, analyzes, interprets, and presents scientific data and results.
- Build a strong rapport with scientists and leader across Adaptive in South San Francisco and Seattle.

Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)
- Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or related life science with 5+ years of work experience in immunology, T cell biology, and functional immunoassay, and/or 2+ years of TCR-specific research experience.
- Previous experience in T-regulatory cells is highly desirable.
- Previous experience with phage displays, and affinity maturation are highly desirable.
- Knowledge in autoimmune diseases is highly desirable.
- Track record of scientific productivity.
- Excellent attention to detail with proven communication and problem-solving skills.
- Established track record of developing and/or leading cross-functional program teams and supporting senior management, excellent interpersonal skills, and high EQ.
- Ability to prepare high-quality reports and presentations and participate in scientific and business meetings and discussions.
- Superior time- and project-management skills; commitment to anticipating and meeting deadlines with a sense of urgency.
Working Conditions
Job requires working in a lab and may require handling biological material including blood, bone marrow, and tissue. Work occasionally requires flexible and/or extended hours.
Physical Requirements
- Staff may have to periodically spend extended periods of time standing/sitting within the lab while executing repetitive work, which also includes:
- Lift <20 pounds regularly
- Lift >20 pounds occasionally
- Lift/move large freezers and fridges with the assistance of dollies and carts
- Occasionally spend <5 minutes in walk-in -20°C freezer, wearing insulated coat
Compensation
Salary Range: $123,640 - $185,460
Other compensation elements include:
- equity grant
- bonus eligible
