Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from a formal technical or vocational Licensed Practical Nurse program is required.
  • An active New York State Licensed Practical Nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • At least one year of experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse working with clients with Substance Use Disorder or Serious Mental Illness, or in a similar working environment, is required.
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and electrocardiography is required.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs is required.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health records, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Support providers under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or physician in providing patient care.
  • Check vital signs, draw blood, obtain other specimens for laboratory analysis and culture as ordered by the medical provider, discuss chief health concerns, and administer injections and immunizations.
  • Observe, measure, record, and report data relating to patients' mental and physical status.
  • Administer methadone under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Prepare medication labels and take-home bottles for clients who self-administer medication when the medical clinic is closed or who are permitted to self-medicate under agency policies.
  • Record and report any medication spillage that occurs while dispensing medication to a patient.
  • Participate in the ongoing assessment of patients' needs.
  • Follow methadone-dispensing protocols established by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.
  • Tally the medication sheet at the end of the day.
  • Physically count medication under Registered Nurse supervision during end-of-day closing.
