Requirements
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
  • Be a licensed electrical journeyperson.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience with building automation systems or in a related field.
  • Understand the design and design intent of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Read and understand electrical, mechanical, and control drawings, specifications, schematics, and ladder diagrams.
  • Have working knowledge of building automation systems software.
  • Demonstrate troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and their components.
  • Have leadership skills and the ability to manage people.
  • Organize and administer multiple jobs and tasks with attention to detail.
  • Have knowledge of the electrical trade and applicable electrical codes as they apply to building automation systems.
  • Deal effectively with other construction trades.
  • Be confident, decisive, self-motivated, and able to make independent decisions.
  • Have math and logic skills.
  • Have customer service skills.
  • Be able to work a frequently changing schedule to meet customer demands.
  • Meet the stated physical requirements, including standing, climbing, kneeling, lifting, reaching, bending, twisting, walking, squatting, sitting, carrying up to 75 pounds, repetitive hand and foot use, blueprint reading, color identification for wiring, and ladder, scaffold, and lift climbing.
  • Work safely in temperature extremes and environments involving dust, gases, fumes, odors, and mechanical, electrical, chemical, and potentially explosive hazards.
  • Use required personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety glasses, protected-toe boots, and appropriate gloves, with additional protection as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Comply with and ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with and ensure compliance with company employment policies and procedures, including standards of conduct and appearance.
  • Support building automation systems and programmable logic controller field troubleshooting.
  • Assist with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls and instrumentation work.
  • Perform field preventive maintenance checks on electronic systems.
  • Provide field hardware support for electronic controllers, control devices, and applicable pneumatic systems.
  • Provide on-site and front-end software assistance and support to customers.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call hardware and software service availability.
  • Install system additions and turnkey systems.
  • Complete paperwork required to support field work.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for Service Technicians I, II, and III.
  • Assist with or independently perform checkout and startup of system additions and turnkey systems.
  • Communicate with equipment representatives to solve field hardware problems.
  • Assist with or independently perform job checkout and startup as necessary.
Desired Qualifications
  • Post-high-school education in a related field is desirable.

Penn College graduates begin on-the-job training with Tri-M. Thursday, July 23, 2026 Four recent Penn College graduates have signed offer letters to become apprentices with Tri-M Group LLC. Four Pennsylvania College of Technology graduates have signed offer letters to join The Tri-M Group LLC as apprentices. Over the next four years, the students will continue their education while completing 8,000 hours of on-the-job training to earn their journeyperson credentials. The employee-owned company provides electrical construction, building automation, high voltage, security and networking solutions. "Tri-M Group has been an outstanding corporate partner, offering students and graduates meaningful opportunities to explore rewarding careers within an organization that emphasizes safety and employee development," said Justin W. Beishline, corporate relations officer. "Our partnership continues to grow and evolve, strengthening pathways for career exploration and long-term success. Tri-M, which is part of the Penn College Corporate Tomorrow Makers program, has welcomed multiple Penn College students and graduates at its three Pennsylvania locations in Kennett Square, the Lehigh Valley and Lock Haven. The interns and apprentices are now supporting the company's electrical construction, business automation services, electrical service, network service and building automation systems startup divisions. Members of the latest cohort of apprentices are Caden I. Lantz, of Williamsport, a 2025 mechatronics technology graduate and 2026 building automation engineering technology graduate, and Owen J. Mulhern, of Havertown, Nick D. Laude, of Hallstead, and Krew G. Baur, of West Chester, all 2026 electrical construction graduates.
