Senior Controls Engineer - Grand Rapids, Michigan
DISHER is currently partnering with an automation company that provides a full suite of services including conceptual design, automation controls, installation, troubleshooting and service for industrial automation equipment in their search for a Senior Controls Engineer. In this role, you will conduct high level engineering activities that utilize industry best practices including but not limited to the design, programming, commissioning, debug and install of automated control systems.

What you’ll get to do:
- Use AutoCAD Electrical to create/update electrical, pneumatic and hydraulics schematics.
- Design and program according to customer specifications.
- Select controls components based on design criteria and generate a bill of materials.
- Program using RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Studio 5000 and Factory Talk View Studio.
- Create or update programs for Fanuc and other robot brands.
- Perform machine power up, debug and programming.
- Troubleshoot electrical wiring and process related issues.
- Meet project budgets and timeline milestones.
- Commission, setup and program several types of automated hardware (not Allen Bradley).
- Support junior engineers in development of advanced controls systems designs, i.e. PLC, HMI, robotics, vision systems, automation applications and high-level languages for various types of automated equipment.
- Evaluate machine process problems, determine root cause and execute corrective action plans.
- Lead complex projects where several engineers are needed to ensure standard practices are followed.
- Recognize and implement design and workflow improvements.
- Troubleshoot robot controllers, ladder logic, electrical control devices, mechanical units, transfer devices and peripheral equipment (such as pneumatics).
- May represent the organization in various networking opportunities and assist sales team with technical questions as needed.
What will make you successful:
- Bachelor’s Degree (Electrical, Mechanical or Robotics Engineering)
- Eight plus years related work experience in the controls engineering field
- Mechanical knowledge and experience in troubleshooting of automated equipment.
- Must able to program Fanuc robots and at least one or more of the following brand of robots: ABB, KUKA, YASKAWA and Motoman.
- Be able to commission and setup robot controllers and aux axis.
- Familiar with vision systems, such as Keyence, Cognex or Dalsa
- Design and understand several different industrial communication networks such as Devicenet, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus and EthernetIP.
- Strong working knowledge using Rockwell software (Allen Bradley).
- Familiar GE, Siemes or Mitsibushi PLC.
- Familiar with CIP safety controllers such as Pilz and Guardlogix.
- Able to perform Risk Assessments.
- Familiar with motion controllers, variable frequency drives and electronic actuators.
- Knowledgeable with industry standards such as NEC, NFPA, and RIA.
- Work independently while fulfilling job responsibilities with no supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple projects that may have shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to recognize and anticipate issues as they arise; and work independently to problem solve and implement solutions.
- Understanding of project scope, budget, and schedules.
- Willingness to adapt to last-minute requests from customers.
- Able to follow project from kickoff to final signoff.
- Must have clean driving record and reliable transportation.
- Excellent work history and attendance record.
- Ability to travel 15-25% of the time.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
