Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, mathematics, statistics, or a related field of study is required.
  • A minimum of four years of geospatial analysis, statistical analysis, or similar experience in an academic or professional setting is required; an advanced degree may substitute for experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of data analysis concepts and processes, including creating, organizing, manipulating, maintaining, analyzing, and visualizing data, is required.
  • Analytical skills in environmental geospatial modeling, remote sensing, and/or spatial statistics are required.
  • The ability to work independently and use sound judgment to solve common and complex problems is required.
  • The ability to manage projects effectively is required.
  • The ability to keep abreast of new developments and standards in geospatial technology and analysis is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, ArcGIS Pro, Python, and remote sensing software is required.
  • Working knowledge of relational database concepts is required.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills are required.
  • The ability to communicate work to technical and non-technical audiences through oral, written, and visual communication is required.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and enhance data-driven solutions that improve wildfire response and resource management.
  • Conduct advanced geospatial analyses to address complex wildfire and natural-resource challenges.
  • Automate workflows to maximize efficiency and improve response times.
  • Communicate insights through reports, visualizations, and interactive platforms.
  • Compile, process, and manage complex tabular, vector, and raster data sources for analyses and applications.
  • Support collaboration and program messaging within the Fire and Emergency Response Division through application of current technology.
  • Participate in the agency's geospatial working group and collaborate with other agency programs.
  • Occasionally support emergency-response operations as requested, including extended hours and weekends.
Desired Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, mathematics, statistics, or a related field of study is preferred.
  • Experience with or interest in natural resources, especially forestry, wildfire science, or fire ecology, is preferred.
  • Experience in wildland-fuels mapping, wildfire-response field support, land-use/land-cover change detection, and/or LiDAR is preferred.
  • Proven experience with Python and/or R is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Google Earth Engine is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Power Automate and Power BI is preferred.
  • Experience with machine learning and advanced statistical techniques is preferred.
