Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program is required.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • A current Pennsylvania Indirect Physical Therapy Assistant license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Organize and administer medically prescribed physical therapy programs across all levels of living under the direction of a Physical Therapist.
  • Administer active and passive therapeutic treatments, including heat, light, sound, water, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, ultraviolet, infrared, diathermy, and hot/cold pack therapies.
  • Administer traction treatments to relieve neck and back pain.
  • Instruct, motivate, and assist patients in functional activities, including pre-ambulation, transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living.
  • Observe and evaluate patient performance during treatment sessions and communicate findings to the Physical Therapist.
  • Fit, adjust, and train patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces and prostheses.
  • Educate and assist patients with mobility-related activities and assistive devices such as crutches, wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and prostheses.
  • Collaborate with physical therapy staff and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care.
  • Record treatment plans, patient responses, and progress in medical records.
  • Educate patients and family members on continuing treatment procedures at home when indicated.
  • Assist with ordering supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in staff education, in-services, and training programs.
  • Assist with orientation and mentorship of new Physical Therapist Assistants, students, and aides.
  • Measure range of motion, body part length and girth, and vital signs to assist with patient evaluations.
  • Work collaboratively with therapists, nursing staff, patients, and caregivers to achieve patient outcomes.
  • Apply knowledge of PPS, MDS, Medicare Part B, and applicable reimbursement systems.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local standards, ethics, and policies related to physical therapy practice.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and professional development activities.
  • Complete clinical and billing documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Address complaints and resolve concerns as directed by the Physical Therapist.
