Under direct supervision, prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures that aid in the confirmation of patient diagnosis.
- Experience using automated equipment and instruments including microscopes, microtomes, and other lab equipment.
- Exhibits accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work for quality.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.
- Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience:
- One (1) year experience is required.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Eligible for certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is preferred.
- Processes, embeds, cuts, and stains surgical, biopsy and anatomical tissues for light and fluorescent microscopic slide review.
- Examines slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation and staining meets laboratory requirements.
- Prioritizes test procedures and completes procedures in a timely manner.
- Maintains proper records of all tests completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Performs instrument maintenance utilizing established protocols.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
