Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program.
  • Current licensure as an advanced practice nurse in Georgia through the Georgia Board of Nursing and certification as a Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center or an equivalent body, or certification as a Physician Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Appropriate licensure in the state of Georgia.
  • At least one year of direct experience in one or more high-acuity clinical specialties may be required.
  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Healthcare Provider certifications are required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in evaluating and treating patients.
  • Document the delivery of care in individual medical records.
  • Conduct patient interviews and document patient histories, psychosocial histories, health status, and medical problems or potential problems.
  • Under physician direction, perform physical examinations and specialized diagnostic or therapeutic procedures, including cast application and removal, wound suturing, and dressing changes.
  • Assist physicians in diagnosing medical problems, developing care plans, and prescribing treatment.
  • Order, schedule, or perform laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures such as urinalyses, pregnancy tests, blood tests, and x-rays.
  • Communicate the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of scheduled procedures to patients.
  • In collaboration with physicians, arrange consultations with or referrals to other medical professionals or community services.
  • Educate patients on health habits, self-examinations, behavior management, follow-up assessments or treatments, at-home medical care, medication, and other health-related issues.
  • Work with the manager to formulate a professional-development plan.
  • Attend appropriate educational in-service sessions.
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Maintain and update accurate patient records, including medical assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Collect and interpret diagnostic data to implement appropriate patient care plans.
  • Prepare statistical reports and analyses of research projects and investigational protocols, and report progress, adverse trends, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Train and teach health-care professionals, including students and residents, in techniques and procedures unique to the specific setting.
  • Actively participate on organizational health-services committees.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
