Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic testing, including color fundus photography, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography, automated perimetry, slit lamp photography, external photography, and ocular motility photography.
- Perform supervised ocular diagnostic testing using specialty-specific imaging instruments, document procedures, and upload images into the electronic medical record and PACS platform.
- Provide patient-centric care while complying with University of Miami policies, standards, values, regulations, patient confidentiality requirements, patient safety practices, hand hygiene, and infection-control procedures.
- Complete mandatory in-services and online training and attend assigned educational courses for ophthalmic personnel.
- Meet daily productivity goals and maintain accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness of work.
- Ensure all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order.
- Organize and stock rooms for daily clinical activities.
- Travel to satellite eye centers and other locations when necessary or requested, and work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Perform and certify clinical research imaging, including digital fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography, color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, microperimetry, slit lamp photography, and gonio photography.
- Perform additional clinical research examinations as required, including Humphrey visual field testing, keratometry, axial eye length measurements, and intraocular lens calculations.
- Perform and certify clinical research assessments, including full-field stimulus threshold, Octopus visual field testing, full-field electroretinography, multifocal electroretinography, pattern electroretinography, visual evoked potentials, electrooculography, color vision testing, dark adaptation, ETDRS visual acuity testing, low-luminance visual acuity testing, and mobility testing.
- Acquire and maintain certification through multiple reading centers by following study imaging protocol instructions.
- Mask and prepare digital files for submission through online portals, upload clients, and cloud-based file-sharing systems.
- Acquire and maintain certification of clinical research imaging equipment, notify reading centers of software upgrades, perform equipment maintenance, contact vendors regarding malfunctioning devices, and maintain certified-device records.
- Provide sponsors and coordinators with site assessment information.
- Assist in writing imaging protocols for investigator-sponsored trials.
- Maintain relationships with reading centers and sponsors and address deviations and queries in a timely manner.
- Attend department meetings, meet with study monitors, attend in-service meetings regarding new studies, and attend regular one-on-one meetings with a supervisor at different locations.
- Coordinate and communicate with research and non-research staff to support effective patient workflow and inform supervisors and hospital leadership of workflow issues.
- Maintain current CITI group one, conflict-of-interest, and Good Clinical Practice certifications before participating in clinical research studies.
- Maintain records of all study visits and provide reports and assessments when requested by a supervisor.
- Perform informed consents, maintain study subject records, submit Institutional Review Board materials, and assist with coordinating study visits when required.
- Create imaging protocol summaries for backup imaging staff and submit certification and clinical research images on behalf of backup photographers.
- Assist satellite locations with study imaging submissions and navigate multiple reading-center submission portals independently.
- Perform organizational duties as assigned.
