Requirements
  • Degree + 9 years of advocacy, policy, and coalition building experience
  • In lieu of degree requirement, applicable work or life experience may be considered.
  • Commitment to Vera’s mission to end the overcriminalization and mass incarceration of people of color, immigrants, and people experiencing poverty
  • Subject matter expertise in bail reform, pretrial services, and other issues related to reducing reliance on jails
Responsibilities
  • Work with Initiative Director to set the overall advocacy and policy strategy
  • Manage and develop partnerships, communications, and work plans
  • Assist in the development of the annual plan and theory of change
  • Develop, draft, and review strategic planning documents
  • Speak at conferences regarding institute and Beyond Jails Initiative work and related areas
  • Liaise with other programs and departments to advance initiative goals
  • Develop and author publications; develop, as well as speak in programs such as convenings, webinars, presentations to advance the initiative’s goals
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to team on topics that may include technical assistance, policy development and analysis, legislation, and advocacy
  • Act as a thought partner in organizational design of the team and participate in recruitment, interviewing and selection of new team members
  • Manage staff and assist in their onboarding to the initiative
  • Invest in the professional development of team members
  • Assist the Initiative Director with fundraising, including drafting proposals and reports, and responding to RFPs
  • Attend funder meetings with Initiative Director to share expertise as a subject matter expert
  • Other job duties as assigned
