Shield AI develops AI-powered autonomous flight systems for defense, including unmanned aerial systems and an autonomous AI pilot called Hivemind. Hivemind works across platforms as a platform-agnostic autonomous operator that can sense, decide, and act to fly aircraft without human input, even in GPS-denied or communications-denied environments, and it is supported by a software stack with development tools, simulation, mission planning, and post-flight analysis. The company differentiates itself by offering GPS-denied, edge-computing autonomy that can be integrated into various airframes, along with in-house training and testing capabilities gained through strategic acquisitions. Its goal is to provide capable, reduced-risk autonomous air power for reconnaissance, surveillance, and combat support to defense customers such as U.S. and allied military branches.

GE Aerospace to advance hypersonic test bed.

GE Aerospace to advance hypersonic test bed. 2 September 2026 - 12:09 American company GE Aerospace secured a contract by the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), part of the U.S. Department of War, to advance development of a hypersonic test bed under the Hypersonic and High-Cadence Airborne Testing Capabilities (HyCAT) program. Under the contract, GE Aerospace will design and develop a combined booster and cruiser system that together form an all-up round (AUR) test bed to enable hypersonic testing. Among the company's goals are full integration of the AUR, along with first qualification and component-level testing of key subsystems. The award marks the next stage of development for a liquid-fueled hypersonic test platform, building on initial funding granted in 2023. Since then, the company has advanced subsystem refinement and evaluation and conducted a preliminary design review of the AUR. In July, GE Aerospace and Shield AI reached another milestone in the development of the advanced Axisymmetric Vectoring Exhaust Nozzle (AVEN) on the X-BAT autonomous strike aircraft. Shield AI's X-BAT named official autonomous aircraft of the Army-Navy Game.

Shield AI's X-BAT named official autonomous aircraft of the Army-Navy Game. RENO, Nev. (August 20, 2026) - Shield AI, the defense-tech company building the world's best AI pilots and next-generation aircraft, today announced its X-BAT has been named the Official Autonomous Aircraft of the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA, one of the most storied rivalries in American sports. Shield AI also joins as an Associate Sponsor of America's Game. The 127th meeting of the United States Military Academy at West Point's Army Black Knights and the United States Naval Academy's Navy Midshipmen will take place Dec. 12, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. X-BAT will serve as Shield AI's flagship aircraft for the sponsorship. X-BAT is an AI-piloted, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) fighter jet designed for expeditionary and maritime operations in contested environments, powered by Shield AI's Hivemind autonomy software. It combines VTOL with a range of more than 2,000 nautical miles at full mission payload, letting it operate from ships, remote islands, or austere sites with no runway required. "There's no game like Army-Navy," said Brandon Tseng, Shield AI's president, co-founder and Naval Academy Class of 2008 graduate. "I started Shield AI because I deeply believed in the mission of our Armed Forces and that technology could be better leveraged to help accomplish that mission. With 15% of our workforce made up of veterans and dozens of service academy graduates on our team, supporting this game and Army and Navy athletics is a natural extension of who we are. Being part of America's Game is an honor." "Shield AI's support with X-BAT as the Official Autonomous Aircraft of the game highlights the growing role that advanced technology plays in keeping our future forces safe. As future Army and Navy leaders take the field for the 127th meeting of this historic rivalry, we're excited to welcome a partner whose mission is to equip tomorrow's warfighters with the capabilities they'll need to succeed," said Tom Theodorakis, Director of Athletics at Army West Point. "We are proud to welcome Shield AI and X-BAT to America's Game. Founded by one of our own, Shield AI embodies the exact same values the Army-Navy Game has celebrated for generations. This partnership brings together organizations united by a shared mission to support those who defend our nation, and we look forward to celebrating the next generation of military leaders who will carry that mission forward," said Michael Kelly, Director of Athletics at the U.S. Naval Academy. Shield AI joins presenting sponsor USAA, participating partners Chevrolet, Exchange, Duke Cannon Supply Co. and Palantir, and associate sponsor The American Legion in supporting Army-Navy. Shield AI will have a prominent presence throughout Army-Navy Game week, with additional fan experiences and programming to be announced ahead of kickoff. The announcement comes as Shield AI sponsors Tailhook's Hook '26, the naval aviation symposium held annually in Reno. About Shield AI: Founded in 2015, Shield AI is a venture-backed defense-tech company with the mission of protecting service members and civilians with intelligent systems. Its products include Hivemind autonomy software, V-BAT and X-BAT aircraft, and Aechelon simulation and synthetic reality technologies. Terra Industries completes $52 million seed round financing.

Terra Industries completes $52 million seed round financing. By: www.528btc.com | 2026/08/17 15:25:00 CoinWorld reported: African defense technology company Terra Industries announced an additional $18 million in financing, bringing its total seed round to $52 million. Investors in this round include 8VC, founded by Joe Lonsdale, Silent Ventures, and Nova Global. The company plans to use the new funds to expand manufacturing capacity, advance product deployment, and accelerate overseas expansion. Continued Expansion After Financing Founded in 2024, Terra primarily develops autonomous systems and defense infrastructure such as drones and mine detection vehicles. The company stated that the latest funds will be used to expand manufacturing operations in the "Global South," while also hiring more employees and accelerating product rollout. According to the company's disclosed plans, Terra will also establish an office in London and hopes to further enter San Francisco and Washington, D.C. to secure more capital support and U.S. collaboration resources. Targeting Localized Defense Supply Chains Terra aims to penetrate markets in Africa and other developing regions that have long relied on external defense supplies. The company claims that its current competitors are mainly defense firms that have secured government contracts, particularly suppliers from Turkey, China, and Western countries. TechCrunch previously mentioned that many African countries still depend on Western, Russian, or Chinese security intelligence and defense capabilities, often collaborating with multiple international contractors. This model results in a fragmented defense supply chain that is more susceptible to external disruptions. Company Claims Contract Amounts Could Reach $100 Million This Year Terra's goal is to become a key supplier of military equipment and critical defense infrastructure to relevant countries, thereby enhancing local supply capabilities. The company stated that it expects to secure $100 million in contracts this year, including at least one federal contract, and aims to achieve tens of millions in revenue by the end of the year. Earlier this year, Terra successfully completed two rounds of financing, raising $11.75 million and $22 million, respectively. With this new financing, the total amount for the seed round has further increased. 8VC has also previously invested in U.S. defense technology companies Anduril and Shield AI, indicating that capital continues to bet on the defense technology sector.
