Requirements
  • At least 4 years of experience in AI/ML engineering, data engineering, natural language processing, or a closely related field, including hands-on large language model work.
  • Production experience building and operating a vector database such as pgvector, Pinecone, Weaviate, or an equivalent system.
  • Strong understanding of embedding models and how embedding quality affects retrieval accuracy.
  • Experience designing and operating data ingestion pipelines at scale using Celery, Airflow, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with prompt engineering for production large language model systems requiring reliable structured outputs.
  • Experience building large language model evaluation frameworks, including golden test sets, judge prompts, and accuracy metrics.
  • Strong Python skills, including FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, and asynchronous programming patterns.
  • Clear understanding of how retrieval-augmented generation context affects large language model reasoning and how to diagnose retrieval-driven errors.
  • Familiarity with semantic search concepts, including cosine similarity, approximate nearest neighbor search, and hybrid search.
Responsibilities
  • Design and operate the pgvector schema across collections containing tenant incidents, runbooks, operational context, and CI/CD change events, including indexing strategy, query performance tuning, and strict data isolation across more than 100 tenants.
  • Build and maintain embedding pipelines that convert operational documents into searchable vector representations, selecting embedding models and designing chunking strategies for structured JSON, unstructured prose, and time-series data.
  • Build the retrieval-augmented generation retrieval layer used during incidents, tuning relevance thresholds, re-ranking strategies, and hybrid dense and sparse search.
  • Design the full ingestion lifecycle, including runbook imports, historical incident backfills, CI/CD post-deployment event hooks, and feedback loops that embed resolved incidents into the vector database.
  • Design and iterate prompts that combine Grafana stateless root cause analysis, live signal data, and retrieval-augmented generation context into a single input for Claude, producing structured and actionable root cause analyses.
  • Define and maintain the JSON schema for root cause analysis output and build the Pydantic validation layer that catches schema violations before delivery.
  • Own the calibrated 0–1 confidence scoring framework and build FastAPI gate logic that routes root cause analyses to the correct action tier.
  • Maintain a golden test set of 20–30 historical incidents and run the full pipeline against it after every prompt or retrieval-augmented generation change, using judge prompts to score accuracy and catch regressions.
  • Run monthly calibration checks comparing confidence scores with SRE-confirmed outcomes, calculating Expected Calibration Error and adjusting thresholds accordingly.
  • Build a prompt versioning system with changelog tracking, and monitor token usage, cost per root cause analysis, and API latency while alerting on unexpected cost trends.
  • Track retrieval quality metrics, including relevance scores, coverage gaps, cross-tenant isolation verification, and ablation testing of root cause analysis quality with and without each data collection.
Desired Qualifications
  • Production experience with the Claude API, including messages format, system prompts, and structured output patterns.
  • Experience with large language model output validation frameworks such as Pydantic or Guardrails.
  • Understanding of confidence calibration techniques, including Expected Calibration Error, Platt scaling, and temperature effects.
  • Exposure to SRE or observability domains and familiarity with multi-tenant architectures where tenant isolation is a hard requirement.
  • Knowledge of re-ranking models such as cross-encoders and experience with Kubernetes or AWS EKS.

FICO provides data analytics and decision management tools that help financial institutions assess credit risk and detect fraud. The company’s primary product, the FICO score, works by transforming consumer credit report data into a numerical value that predicts the likelihood of a borrower repaying a loan. Unlike many competitors, FICO’s scoring system serves as the primary industry standard for consumer lending in the United States, integrated directly into software that manages the entire customer lifecycle. The company’s goal is to provide lenders with the predictive tools necessary to make informed, data-driven decisions regarding account origination, marketing, and risk management.
