Job Description
Building Commissioning Specialist
This Position will manage the mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and fire safety systems (MEPF) and building exterior commissioning efforts on all new construction projects, major remodels, and large shop performed campus projects. This position will ensure that mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and fire safety systems perform correctly and are installed according to plans and specifications. This will be achieved in part, through commissioning testing procedures, daily inspections, and thorough plan and specification reviews. This role will liaison with shop personnel and outside contractors, working towards a fully operational and functional building when it is turned over to new occupants.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Work closely with Manager of Building Exteriors to manage all Commissioning efforts for projects at BYU, MTC, Motion Picture Studio, and other affiliated campus areas Projects.
- Coordinate with outside commissioning agents, architects, and engineers.
- Manage BYU self-commissioned projects.
- Work with in-house personnel to commission other building systems as desired by BYU Physical Facilities administration.
- Attend OAC and commissioning meetings for campus projects.
- Reviews project plans and specifications, particularly with regards to the MEPF sections, and building envelope, checking to see that the architects and engineers have followed BYU supplied OPR, Spec, and Instruction to architects and engineers, parts A,B, & C.
- Promotes a positive Image of the department and the university.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- 10 years Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Commissioning, Engineering, or other related experience.
- Basic computer skills and Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Experience reviewing plans and specifications on blue beam
- Strong mechanical inclination and background
- Familiarity with BYU Facility Design guidelines
- Knowledge of BYU design and construction processes
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or other related field plus 10 years Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Associate or Certified Commissioning Professional, Engineering, or other related experience.
- Licensed Journeyman certification
- Licensed commissioning agent
