Requirements
  • Maintain current registered nurse licensure in the state of practice and remain in good standing with the licensing board.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program and pass the state board of examiners.
  • Complete orientation skills checks after three months of orientation with a preceptor, including successful demonstration of operating-room and recovery-room skills.
  • Possess current CPR certification at the healthcare-provider level.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in general patient care, patient monitoring equipment, emergency equipment, and all facility registered nurse competencies.
  • Demonstrate skills in intravenous starts, fluid monitoring, and port-a-cath insertion.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of sterile and clean techniques, patient-care drugs, x-ray equipment, OSHA regulations, and personal protective equipment for blood-borne pathogens.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with patients, visitors, physicians, nursing staff, business-office staff, and other facility personnel.
  • Demonstrate operation of computers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, and paging systems.
Responsibilities
  • Direct and supervise patient care in the clinical area under the supervision of the ASC Administrator.
  • Assist the ASC Supervisor with patient flow and clinical care throughout the facility.
  • Obtain pertinent patient information, including laboratory and test results, to complete patient charts.
  • Assist physicians with direct patient care in the clinical setting, recovery room, and operating-room setting.
  • Monitor all ambulatory surgery center patients in pre-operative and post-operative settings, including vital signs, cardiac status, and respiratory status.
  • Manage care for four to six patients simultaneously.
  • Position the C-arm for various blocks under physician direction.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations using the crash cart, defibrillator, emergency drugs, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Assist with the quality-improvement program and current trend data.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance and work environment.
  • Schedule patients professionally and coordinate with diagnostic centers and other physician offices.
  • Direct patient-care admission and schedule patient-testing needs.
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, procedures, code of conduct, and compliance-training requirements.
