Job Summary:
The Lead Surgical Tech works under the direction of the Manager of the operating room in collaboration with the PCC-RN. Responsibilities include assisting with education, orientation, process improvement, product evaluation, onboarding of new physicians, instrument and equipment management, and Preference card management related to their service area. Ensures safety and security for self and others, follows all special precautions related to patient care, and maintains a clean and organized perioperative unit. Promotes a positive attitude to staff, families, and patients/guests while maintaining patient confidentiality. Performs all tasks cost-effectively without compromising quality of care, meets hospital continuing education and certification requirements, and upholds the goals and objectives of the Department of Perioperative Services. The Lead Surgical Tech contributes to organizational effectiveness and demonstrates career growth and development.

Position Shift:
• Lead Surgical Tech, Days – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 7a-7p
• Lead Surgical Tech, Nights – Friday, Saturday, Sunday – 7p-7a
Sign-On Bonus:
• This full-time position offers a $20,000 (taxable) bonus to be paid over 2 years.
• The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months.
Relocation Bonus:
• Up to $10,000 (taxable) to be paid within 45 days of hire, based on relocation mileage.
• Must relocate from greater than 100 miles to be eligible.

About the Department:
The environment on the Labor and Delivery unit is high-paced and dynamic, with a diverse patient population. We care for adult and pediatric patients ranging in age from newborns to 50+-year-old women who are being treated for obstetrical care before and after delivery.
Our patients are unique because we care for two patients in one. One of the perks of working on our unit is that our team works very well together and is cohesive. Nobody hesitates to quickly jump in to help each other whenever needed.

Qualifications:
Required: Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program during the applicant’s service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States.
Required: Min. 2 years of relevant work experience.
Required: Certification from one of the listed issuers below:
- NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants, Certified Surgical Technologist.
- NCCT – TSC – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech In Surgery.
Exceptions:
- If graduate of surgical technologist armed forces training program, no certification is required.
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Surgical Technology (Expert): Is a recognized expert and authority in surgical technology. Occupies the position which is the last internal resource for support or direction. Expected, as a result of the position, to have the ultimate knowledge, control, influence, and/or jurisdiction in surgical technology. Takes a lead role in developing best practices for the organization.
• Environmental Sterility & Safety (Novice): Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate environmental sterility and safety in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Generally works under the direction of others while accomplishing assignments.
• Environmental Sterility & Safety (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of environmental sterility and safety in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering environmental sterility and safety services without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving technical instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
• Operating Room Care (Expert): (Blank)
• Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Expert): Considered an expert in the use, impact, capability and performance of the specific equipment used in the organization. Cognizant of state-of-the-art features that improve the equipment and its capabilities. Develops best practices for equipment usage.
• Inventory Management (Intermediate): Monitors material movement into and out of stock, reconciles inventory balances, and maintains adequate inventory levels.
