Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Assist audiologists with audiological testing and evaluation, including proper fitting of hearing devices and technology.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, supplies, and instruments for patient examinations.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments while observing sterile technique.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Provide patients with basic instructions and information regarding examination procedures.
  • Organize and stock audiology rooms with required supplies and discard expired supplies.
  • Clean and sanitize patient rooms between appointments and monitor clinic organization and cleanliness.
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phone calls and maintaining administrative records.
  • Use IDX RIS/PACS to track patient arrival times and advise front desk personnel of patient delays.
  • Greet patients, verify patient information, direct patients to the clinic or audiology room, and ensure they are ready for the provider.
  • Document equipment issues and report them to appropriate managing staff.
  • Copy completed patient paperwork, deliver originals to the front desk for scanning, and distribute copies to appropriate reading rooms.
  • Assist with the distribution of patient label stickers in Audiology.
  • Perform daily biologic checks of audiological equipment and report equipment problems to the equipment manufacturer and Practice Manager.
  • Report unusual incidents in a timely manner to appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Monitor audiology provider schedules and patient arrivals and notify providers of arrivals and readied patients through designated channels.
  • Support testing of pediatric patients and assist with pediatric appointments as needed.
  • Assist patients with transition from the waiting room to the audiology division.
  • Record case history information for audiology appointments once certification is received.
  • Make case-by-case decisions on clinic flow to prioritize shortened wait times and optimal patient care.
  • Assist audiologists with clinical visits, including auditory brainstem response, videonystagmography/electronystagmography, hearing aid evaluations, pediatric and booth testing, and otoacoustic emissions testing.
  • Participate with the audiology licensee in research projects, in-service training, public relations programs, and similar activities as directed.
  • Assist in implementing plans or programs for management and/or treatment developed by the supervising audiology licensee.
  • Test hearing aids to determine whether they meet appropriate specifications and mechanical performance requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hearing devices, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and bone conduction devices.
  • Demonstrate care and use of hearing aid controls, battery insertion, and insertion of hearing aids or earmolds into the ear.
  • Test equipment to determine whether it performs according to published specifications.
  • Screen hearing using established pass/fail criteria, including newborn hearing screening.
  • Complete regular inventory checks as directed by the Practice Manager.
  • Prepare and stock patient rooms every morning and every night, including turning equipment on or off and restarting computers.
  • Check for cerumen impaction or infection and determine whether the patient needs to visit the ENT department first.
  • Determine audiologist availability for add-on appointments using the clinical patient schedule and communicate availability to ENT.
  • Maintain equipment and status records as directed by the Practice Manager.
  • Log needed items in the monthly ordering sheet by the due date provided by the Practice Manager.
