Position Summary:

Tessera is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) to join our growing team. As an integral part of our team, the candidate will play a pivotal role in driving financial strategies and informing critical decision-making processes. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of success in developing enterprise-wide financial plans and executing corporate reporting, and pair this with a deep understanding of financial analysis methodologies and accounting principles specific to the biotechnology sector. Additionally, they should demonstrate an eagerness to leverage known and emerging technologies to streamline processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead corporate-wide budgeting and planning processes
Lead month-end close and reporting activities for the company, reviewing results, collaborating with accounting, delivering variance analysis, and validating management reporting packages
Monitor performance vs. budget and effect interventions with management, as needed
Collaborate with Senior Director, Strategic and Corporate FP&A on the development of presentations for the executive team and board of directors
Support financial approval, governance, and decision-making processes
Administrate financial planning and reporting system
Develop and implement enhancements to our financial planning, reporting, and enterprise systems to increase capabilities while driving efficiency
Analyze financial data to identify emerging trends, assess risks, and uncover opportunities for cost and/or operational improvement
Potential for business partnering which includes planning, reporting, and strategic analyses depending on the candidate’s specific experience and development interest

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (Finance or Accounting) required with 12 years of business experience, minimum of 6 years in FP&A roles
Strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable the candidate to effectively communicate financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences, lead meetings, and present in front of large audiences
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while also adapting to changing priorities and meeting deadlines under pressure
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, especially when considering large amounts of data
Critical thinking capability to forecast events that may impact financial results and perform analyses to address business questions
Ability to design systems, data structures, and workbooks effectively to automate reporting and analysis at scale
Demonstrate a strong affinity for systems and AI, exhibiting a keen eye for identifying process inefficiencies and potential areas for automation
High self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to personal and team growth and development
Understanding of valuation and modeling concepts, such as NPV and DCF

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or another business concentration in combination with a BS and 7-14 years of FP&A experience
Experience managing direct reports
Hands-on experience with Adaptive Planning, SAP, and Coupa
Experience in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and/or Life Science sectors and, especially, Research & Development (R&D) Finance

Advanced programming and automation skills, such as experience with VBA and RPAs
Knowledge of best practices, gained via direct experience working in or with large finance departments and organizations
