Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous hotel or restaurant experience is required.
  • Fine dining server experience is required.
  • Basic knowledge of wines is required.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English is required.
  • Ability to routinely lift an average of 50 pounds without restrictions is required.
  • Must be of legal age to sell alcohol (21) or serve it (18).
  • Must comply with Massachusetts State and Faculty Club Food Employee Illness Policy requirements.
  • Must work at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location and meet applicable work-location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
Responsibilities
  • Set up à la carte and private dining rooms for all meal periods, including tables and chairs, linens and skirts, flatware, buffets, and coffee and beverage stations.
  • Perform opening and closing side work for each meal period.
  • Take guests' orders for food and beverage items, serve and bus tables, pass hors d'oeuvres, and serve wines and champagnes according to Faculty Club standards.
  • Attend to beverage stations.
  • Clean and reset dining rooms for the next meal period according to established standards.
  • Maintain sanitation standards in compliance with city and state laws, Harvard Environmental Health and Safety regulations, departmental policies, and HACCP policies.
  • Work cooperatively with all team members.
  • Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor, promote positive relationships with guests, maintain a neat appearance, and follow the designated dress code.
  • Perform related job duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Micros or another point-of-sale system is helpful.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask when necessary.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
