Position Description
Our scientists are asking challenging questions and leveraging innovative technologies to discover new insights of aging. The Automation Team is seeking a motivated Laboratory Automation Engineer to accelerate such scientific discovery at Calico. In this role, you will collaborate with talented scientists and engineers to automate high throughput assays across diverse scientific disciplines like genomics, mass spectrometry, cell culture, and others. Position Responsibilities
- Collaborating with scientists and other automation engineers to design, create, and optimize novel workflows on liquid handling platforms
- Planning and executing experiments to validate automated assays and to ensure that the systems are operating robustly
- Initiating and participating in new technology evaluation, development, and implementation
- Identifying and driving process and workflow improvements to increase throughput and efficiency
- Training and providing ongoing support to end-users
- Producing high-quality documentation such as SOPs, maintenance protocols and troubleshooting procedures
- Supporting maintenance, troubleshooting and process improvement efforts across multiple technology labs
Position Requirements
- BS/MS in science or engineering discipline, preferably 2 years of academic or industry experience
- Hands-on work with basic laboratory workflows in genomics, biochemistry, mass spectrometry, or cell culture
- Experience scripting on liquid handling platforms (e.g. Hamilton Vantage, Tecan EVO, Agilent Bravo, or similar liquid handling platforms)
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and be productive in a cross-functional team
- Must be willing to work onsite four days a week
The estimated base salary range for this role is $121,000 - $138,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
