Requirements
  • Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher, Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program is required.
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing or higher must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within seven years of their start date.
  • Nurses hired with a valid compact license must obtain a North Carolina nursing license within 90 days of their start date.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Knowledge of the scope of practice of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and nursing care assistants.
  • Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.
  • Ability to assess the nursing needs of acutely and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Ability to seek out resources independently and work collaboratively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, the healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others.
  • Ability to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care.
  • Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer or paper documentation tools.

  • Ability to use a computer and learn new software programs.
  • Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.
  • Ability to remain focused and organized.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques for administering routine and special patient treatments.
  • Working knowledge of infection-control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Working knowledge and completion of appropriate Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical capacity testing is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, provide, supervise, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process, physician orders, and established policies and procedures.
  • Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist other nursing personnel in delivering nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned.
  • Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care, including equipment and material resources.
  • Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and seek appropriate assistance or educational offerings as part of professional development.
  • Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance-improvement opportunities and in performance-improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the described work.
