Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field is required within two years of hire into this position.
  • Associates degree in Nursing required.
  • Five (5) years of nursing experience in a healthcare environment is required.
  • Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) experience is preferred.
  • Active TX RN Licensure required.
  • Active CPR/BLS required.
  • Active BMTCN Blood and Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to immunocompromised patients with complex needs, including hematology stem cell transplant and cellular therapy patients across the adult and geriatric spectrum in the outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrate competency across the continuum of malignant hematology and stem cell transplantation.
  • Deliver high-quality care across all domains of practice when caring for patients receiving cellular therapies.
  • Develop and implement an individualized plan for utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Ensures enhanced patient outcomes through effective communication, collaboration, mentorship, and effective delegation in the exercise of his/her independent judgment.
  • May lead or mentor lower level team members.
  • Assesses the unit's needs related to practice and improvement opportunities.
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies required to complete duties safely and perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
  • Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Uses therapeutic communication to establish relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional team and collaborate on the plan of care.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers, applying customer service principles and positive language to enhance interactions.
  • Able to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, and patients and their families.
  • Exhibits strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving abilities by effectively prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and concisely.
  • Able to analyze information logically to coordinate work efficiently within schedule constraints while managing emergent requirements promptly.
  • Participate as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient.
  • Advanced experience operating electronic medical records systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Ability to serve as a preceptor and a mentor by fostering a teaching environment.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a related field is required within two years of hire into this position.
  • Educates patients and family members on the therapy process.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
