Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in designing equipment in the food industry or a related field.
  • Experience designing electro-mechanical machines using machine components such as motors, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, and bearings.
  • Direct experience with Solidworks for creating assemblies, parts, and detail drawings.
  • Proven record of successfully developing and delivering solutions that meet customer’s needs.
  • Knowledge of dairy or food industry guidelines concerning food safety, sanitation, and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, NSF, USDA).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be flexible as needs shift.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical people.
  • Assembly skills using common hand tools.
Responsibilities
  • Innovate new and improve existing equipment to expand opportunities within the dairy industry.
  • Develop detailed engineering specifications and drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks, Draftsight).
  • Generate design documentation including operating manuals, parts lists, and procedures.
  • Ensure all equipment designs comply with sanitary and regulatory standards.
  • Work closely with Reiser cheese and other food technologists, customer center, engineering, and customer service teams to understand technical requirements and ensure feasibility of designs.
  • Collaborate with our external customers technical teams to understand their needs for new equipment and understand how equipment may integrate with their lines.
  • Be able to collaborate with our purchasing team to coordinate ordering and delivery of parts.
  • Work closely with Reiser’s existing manufacturers and find new ones as needed.
  • Oversee the testing of new prototypes and equipment in real-world food production environments.
  • Analyze test results and refine designs to optimize performance, with the goal of commercializing the design.
  • Stay updated on new industry standards and regulatory changes.
  • Travel overnight roughly 10-20% to customer facilities in the United States and Canada, as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in dairy equipment or food equipment design is a plus but not required.
