Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Two to five years of related experience is required, with healthcare industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid systems is beneficial.
  • Previous patient interaction is beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • A strong customer service philosophy is required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are required.
  • The ability to work independently is required.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Meet regularly with dialysis patients at clinics in the assigned region to educate them about and coordinate insurance options.
  • Educate patients about alternative insurance options, including Medicare, Medicaid, Medicare Supplement, state renal programs, and COBRA.
  • Ensure patients follow through with insurance application processes and obtain required premium statements and signatures.
  • Discuss insurance options when employment status or other circumstances change, including when insurance contracts are terminated.
  • Complete and follow up on paperwork for disputed non-payment claims.
  • Collect documents and complete initial and annual indigent waivers.
  • Determine Medicare eligibility by meeting with patients and contacting local Social Security offices.
  • Discuss Medicare applications with eligible patients and assist with the application process.
  • Act as a liaison between patients and local agents for Medicare terminations and reinstatements.
  • Complete annual open-enrollment and Medicare-reinstatement paperwork with patients.
  • Track the 30-month coordination period for patients on employer group health plans to ensure Medicare is in place when coordination ends.
  • Monitor and verify each patient's Medicaid status monthly and determine spend-down amounts.
  • Evaluate patients' personal financial information and determine eligibility for the indigent program.
  • Monitor patient insurance information for accuracy and updates for the Accounts Receivable Department.
  • Address anomalies or discrepancies, research questions, and correct identified issues.
  • Meet with patients receiving direct insurance payments to ensure payment for dialysis treatments owed to Fresenius.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review monthly caseload progress reports.
  • Audit patient reports from billing systems to verify insurance information and identify overlooked changes.
  • Provide quality-assurance team members with monthly information about patients' primary and secondary insurance status and current action plans.
  • Complete monthly audit examinations to remain current on internal policies.
  • Present insurance and financial assistance options to patients as needed.
  • Assist with projects assigned by the direct supervisor.
  • Travel extensively between local clinics in the assigned geographic area.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
