Requirements
  • A degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Information Science, or Life Sciences.
  • Experience working in a communications, engagement, or marketing role within a research, scientific publishing, open science, or academic context.
  • Experience tailoring content and engagement approaches for distinct audiences, including early-career and established researchers, software developers, open science advocates, and funders or institutions.
  • Experience leading development of an engagement strategy.
  • Experience planning and delivering effective communication or promotional campaigns and measuring their success.
  • Demonstrable experience managing organisational social media channels and increasing reach and engagement through audience insight and platform analytics.
  • Hands-on experience working in life sciences research or a scientific publishing domain.
  • Experience using social media tools, online training platforms, or webinar and virtual meeting software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to deliver messages to a range of audiences.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver the Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Deliver day-to-day engagement activities, including managing social media channels; developing communication and campaign plans; liaising with partners; creating content; organising events, webinars, and training; and evaluating engagement activities.
  • Tailor messages, formats, and channels for early-career and established researchers, developers, and text and data miners, recognising that these groups have different needs and ways of engaging.
  • Create channel-appropriate content, including short-form posts for Bluesky, LinkedIn, Slack, blogs, news content, short videos, webinars, training resources, and presentations.
  • Create and deliver training sessions for primary user groups and stakeholders of Europe PMC.
  • Develop and maintain webinars and on-demand training materials.
  • Monitor engagement key performance indicators across social, web, training, and communications to inform the Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Share feedback from engagement activities to contribute to strategic planning for Europe PMC development.
  • Attend relevant events, conferences, and workshops, both virtually and in person.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, including talks and posters, and support team members in producing engaging slides and presentations.
  • Contribute to Europe PMC website content and inform design based on relevant knowledge and expertise.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience writing content with scientific or technical subject matter.
  • Interest in or awareness of open science or how artificial intelligence is changing the research landscape.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools relevant to communications work.
  • Data analysis experience.
  • Experience with image and video editing software.

Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung funds EMBL €7M

Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung has committed €7 million to support the EMBL Imaging Centre in Heidelberg, enhancing its development of cutting-edge imaging technologies. This is the second funding round from BIS, following an initial €5 million in 2017. The funding will help recruit and maintain highly qualified staff, furthering the centre's role as a leading international hub for advanced microscopy technologies and training, having supported over 290 projects from 27 countries since mid-2021.
