- A high school diploma or equivalency is required.
- One to two years of experience with operating-room materials management and/or purchasing is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
- Strong business acumen and communication skills are required.
- Requisition supplies necessary to complete the daily assignments of the surgical area.
- Control operating-room inventory by making regular rounds in the surgical suite and specialty carts to identify outdated inventory.
- Maintain current PAR levels and rotate inventory.
- Arrange repairs and prepare return-goods memos for items received with hidden damage.
- Notify the Operating Room Materials Manager of obsolete inventory.
- Arrange storage space orderly for delivery of supplies.
- Provide for the department's emergency materials-procurement needs.
- Collaborate with hospital departments to ensure the quality and safety of supplies used in the department.
- Assist staff with in-service programs concerning materials and new equipment.
- Assist in evaluating new products to promote quality patient care and cost containment.
- Implement systems that facilitate inventory exchange.
- Assist with educating staff on the use and care of equipment and supplies to ensure economical and efficient utilization.
- File traveling requisitions from manufacturers and purchase orders when products are received with packing slips.
- Serve as the Operating Room Department representative on committees designated by the Operating Room Materials Manager, particularly hospital evaluation and standardization committees.
- Participate in accreditation and audit processes as designated by the Operating Room Materials Manager.
- Comply with accreditation requirements, regulatory bodies, commissions, and hospital policies and procedures related to the Operating Room.
- Attend safety training programs and describe responsibilities related to general safety, departmental service safety, and specific job-related hazards.
