Requirements
  • A Master's degree.

  • Ability to manage a classroom, including organizing and presenting material, designing lessons and activities, and monitoring student behavior and performance.

  • Ability to recognize students' strengths and weaknesses in the discipline and provide learning-facilitating feedback.
  • Ability to evaluate student work fairly using Department guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a syllabus using the assigned syllabus shell, including an evaluation procedure within the syllabus parameters and a calendar of assignments aligned with the course outline.
  • Prepare lesson plans and conduct classes during scheduled times using Department-approved texts.
  • Follow Department guidelines for course content and best practices.
  • Meet classes on all scheduled dates, on time, and for the fully allotted time.
  • Respect Owens Community College Standards for Web Instruction when teaching online.
  • Use appropriate classroom management techniques and technology.
  • Create and evaluate assignments, evaluative measures, and activities appropriate to the class.
  • Assign grades to student work and return graded work in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough student attendance records and report attendance by the published deadline.
  • Maintain an accurate and thorough electronic grade book.
  • Report final grades to the Records Office by the deadline and submit electronic copies of grade books and attendance to the Department course management site.
  • Administer course evaluations as instructed by the College.
  • Use the College's course management system for assigned courses and department matters.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite and other required Owens-approved programs.
  • Submit requested electronic documents, including syllabi, grade books, attendance records, and other files, to the Department course management site.
  • Access Owens email daily and read and reply to required messages within 48 hours.
  • Check the campus mailbox at least once a week.
  • Respond to student inquiries outside class in a timely manner.
  • Meet with students outside class when necessary.
  • Attend Department and College workshops, training sessions, and development activities as needed.
  • Attend Department and College meetings as necessary.
  • Participate in student learning assessment activities.
  • Perform other assigned departmental duties.
  • Exhibit the Owens Core Values of Service, Learning, Innovation, Collaboration, and Excellence.
  • Support the College, School of Liberal Arts, and their respective missions and visions.
  • Display professional and collegial behavior toward students, colleagues, supervisors, and the college community.
Desired Qualifications
  • One term of teaching experience at the post-secondary level, including developing lesson plans and assessments.
