Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in civil engineering or a related field.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or another bachelor's degree with 12 or more years of Architect-Engineering industry experience.
  • California Professional Engineer registration in Civil Engineering, or 12 or more years of Architect-Engineering experience.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD Civil 3D software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project.
  • Ability to use ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related geospatial software.
  • Proficiency with PDF software such as Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to become proficient in new software and technologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Interpersonal abilities for working in a team environment.
  • Written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and take direction.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.
  • Ability to kneel, climb, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid California driver's license and an insurable driving record.
Responsibilities
  • Manage project workload and the workload of other engineering staff.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews.
  • Meet with clients regarding work, team performance, and current and future work.
  • Pursue and acquire work with clients.
  • Write and review proposals and scopes of work.
  • Negotiate work with clients.
  • Prepare project concepts through final design plans, specifications, and estimates bid packages.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control.
  • Solve design problems using engineering calculations and general design standards.
  • Prepare engineering reports related to civil site improvements, storm drainage, water distribution and transmission systems, pumping systems, pipelines, utilities, streets and roadways, bikeways, sanitary sewer collection systems, and water and wastewater facilities.
  • Prepare project drawings and designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Provide comments and markups to plans, specifications, and estimates documents.
  • Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to establish horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross sections, and perform earthwork calculations.
  • Serve on project teams under the supervision of CWE Project or Program Managers and Directors or Principals.
  • Complete assignments on time and within budget while achieving the firm's quality objectives.
  • Interact with public and private clients and stakeholders.
  • Interact with multidisciplinary and multioffice teams.
  • Develop and review complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
  • Take responsible charge of projects.
  • Keep informed of updates to standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Analyze complex civil engineering projects to determine design requirements, uncertainties, and constraints.
  • Apply sustainability concepts to civil engineering projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree, PhD, or other advanced degree in a related field.
  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential.
  • Membership in a professional practice organization such as ASCE, ACEC, or APWA.
  • Involvement in organizing or leading outreach and service activities with community service organizations.
