What Application Development & Maintenance contributes to Cardinal Health

Information Technology oversees the effective development, delivery, and operation of computing and information services. This function anticipates, plans, and delivers Information Technology solutions and strategies that enable operations and drive business value.

Application Development & Maintenance performs configuration or coding to develop, enhance and sustain the organization's software systems in a cross-functional team environment through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices. This job family programs and configures end user applications, systems, databases and websites to achieve the organization's internal needs and externally-facing business needs. Application Development & Maintenance partners with business leaders, investigates user needs and conducts regular assessments, maintenance and enhancements of existing applications.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field (Master’s degree is a plus but not required).

Experience:
3–5 years of hands-on experience in application development.

Technical Expertise (Python / .NET, or JavaScript):
Candidates should have strong development experience in at least one of the following areas:

• .NET Development:
  • Proficiency in C# and ASP.NET for web and enterprise applications
  • Experience with .NET Core and MVC architecture
  • Familiarity with Entity Framework and LINQ
  • RESTful API development and integration

• Python
  • Python Flask
  • In-depth understanding of the Python software development stacks, ecosystems, frameworks and tools such as Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Dask, spaCy, NLTK, sci-kit-learn and PyTorch.

• JavaScript Development:
  • Strong skills in JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience with frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js
  • Front-end and back-end integration
  • Familiarity with Node.js and Express.js is a plus

Database Skills:

• Strong proficiency in SQL Server and database management
• Writing complex queries and stored procedures
• Performance tuning and optimization
• Designing and managing relational databases

Additional Skills:

• Familiarity with scripting and automation using VB, JavaScript, or Microsoft Power Tools or any RPA tools (nice to have)
• Working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles and their application in process improvement
• Experience in problem-solving, process diagnostics, Requirement gathering and supporting project execution
• Ability to contribute to measurable business value (e.g., Type 1 and Type 2 savings) through automation and analytics
• Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills
• Effective communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Willingness to mentor junior developers and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

Certifications (Preferred but not required):

• Certifications in SQL, .NET, Python or JavaScript technologies
