Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development certificate is required.
  • A Medical Assistant certification from an accredited program such as NHA and AMCA is required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • At least one year of related medical assisting experience in a physician’s office or other clinical setting, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, is required.
  • Measles, mumps, varicella, and annual influenza immunizations are required as a condition of employment; medical or religious exemptions will be considered consistent with applicable law.
Responsibilities
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs and the reason for the visit, and document symptoms, including their frequency and severity.
  • Provide courteous and compassionate patient care.
  • Document required information in the electronic medical record, including Meaningful Use data, Pay for Performance data, and Accountable Care Organization-related information.
  • Provide injections, immunizations, and other patient-care services ordered by the medical provider.
  • Assist during medical procedures.
  • Communicate and correspond regarding lab results, prescription management, and referrals.
  • Use electronic medical records and task lists to complete patient visits or requests.
  • Recognize urgent medical needs and triage care appropriately.
  • Provide patients with accurate information when answering questions and concerns.
  • Maintain patient records and protect patient confidentiality.
  • Complete referrals accurately and appropriately.
  • Disinfect exam rooms between patients and all patient areas at the end of the day.
  • Assist with clinic upkeep, including daily cleaning and supply ordering and inventory.
  • Answer telephones.
  • Schedule appointments.
  • Take patient messages using electronic medical records.
  • Greet and check in patients.
  • Address patient requests and inquiries.
  • Resolve patient concerns.
  • Process insurance issues, including verifications and authorizations, and assist patients in understanding insurance plans.
  • Return calls as necessary.
  • Complete various assigned administrative processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Allscripts is preferred.
  • Re-processing and procedural experience is highly preferred.
