Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality is preferred; equivalent experience is considered.
  • Five or more years of hands-on quality laboratory experience, including dimensional inspection, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing application, coordinate measuring machine use, metrology, capability studies using Cpk/Ppk, and gage repeatability and reproducibility.
  • Direct production part approval process execution experience, preferably for Caterpillar, Cummins, John Deere, or an IATF 16949 automotive original equipment manufacturer.
  • Direct experience working with Caterpillar in the ETQ supplier portal, including submitting production part approval processes, responding to nonconformances and supplier action requests, and managing scorecard interactions through ETQ Reliance.
  • Working knowledge of ETQ Reliance or a comparable enterprise quality management system, such as Pilgrim, MasterControl, or Veeva.
  • Fluency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, blueprint reading, and Caterpillar Engineering Standard structure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading 8D, root-cause corrective action, and corrective action responses.
  • Ability to move between the shop floor, customer video calls with Caterpillar supplier development engineers, and internal commercial reviews in the same day.
Responsibilities
  • Own all Caterpillar portal communication, ETQ Reliance interactions, and quality-system correspondence, and serve as the primary day-to-day liaison for Caterpillar buyers, supplier development engineers, supplier quality engineers, and quality teams.
  • Own Caterpillar quality documents, including control plans, inspection criteria, process failure mode and effects analyses, and submission packages, and keep them current as Caterpillar specifications and Engineering Standards change.
  • Receive and interpret Caterpillar supplier performance evaluations, build response plans, and own follow-through to close gaps.
  • Provide Caterpillar-specific requirements knowledge to Estimating, including flow-down interpretation, recurring specification callouts, special-process expectations, and packaging and routing standards, and maintain a Caterpillar requirements library.
  • Partner with the Caterpillar sales representative and Estimating team to route Caterpillar conversations to Engineering, Quality Engineering, Operations, or Supply Chain as appropriate.
  • Surface new programs, expanded scope on existing parts, and quality wins for Caterpillar buyers, Sales, and leadership.
  • Translate Caterpillar Engineering Standards and print-level requirements into Technique documentation, drive updates to work instructions, control plans, and inspection criteria, clarify ambiguous flow-downs with Caterpillar supplier development and supplier quality engineers, and maintain specification version control.
  • Own the production part approval process workflow in ETQ Reliance, including staging, evidence collection, review, submission, closure of interim approval conditions, revalidations, and resubmissions; coordinate inputs from Quality Engineering, Inspection, Supply Chain, and signatories; and drive first-pass approval.
  • Own Caterpillar corrective actions from receipt through verification, lead cross-functional responses, drive root-cause analysis, close the loop with Caterpillar, manage nonconformance and 8D closure, and establish the expected depth of root-cause corrective action across the plant.
  • Track and reduce the Caterpillar parts-per-million defect rate and connect performance to the corrective-action backlog.
  • Coordinate Caterpillar supplier audits, capacity assessments, and supplier development engineer site visits, including responses and follow-through on findings.
  • Own and review the Caterpillar SQEP scorecard, drive leading indicators, manage the SQEP roadmap and gap-analysis action plan, and report account performance, risks, opportunities, and organizational needs to Technique leadership.
Desired Qualifications
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor, or Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Prior experience in supplier quality, customer quality, or program management at a tier-1 original equipment manufacturer supplier.
  • Prior experience inside a Caterpillar SQEP-certified supplier at the Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum level.
  • Familiarity with heavy-equipment, off-highway, or power-generation end markets.
