Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in health science, quality assurance, or a related field required
  • 1 year of related hospital, laboratory, infectious disease or sexually transmitted disease clinic setting experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience required
  • Ability to work on a team
  • Specific training in health education, infectious disease counseling, patient education, or equivalent is required
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required
  • Intermediate to advanced level computer skills with Microsoft Office applications in a Windows environment is required
Responsibilities
  • Support the deferral, notification and counselling of donors with abnormal or unexpected test results
  • Educate donors regarding risk behaviors, precautions and possible future implications to health providing appropriate community referrals to donors
  • Identify where donor information gathered during counseling sessions requires follow-up (such as identifying suspect products and retrieval, upgrading Deceased Donor Registration or notifying outside agencies of infectious disease risk)
  • Coordinate donor participation in research or follow-up studies by scheduling follow-up testing and upgrade deferral status as a result of additional follow-up test results
  • Complete donor case files and ensure actions have been taken as required
  • May investigate and gather supporting documentation for donor reentry and reinstatement, including notifying donors of changes to such statuses
  • Perform recipient tracing (look back) activities
