Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Reading, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Adult Education, or Special Education OR a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in another area with 18+ credits or a minor in one of the above areas
  • At least 12 credits in reading instructions
  • Two years of reading teaching experience in elementary, secondary, teaching adults (e.g., Technical or Community College), or teaching in Adult Basic Education, ESL, and/or Special Education
  • OR Bachelor’s degree or higher with DPI certification or major (or 30 semester credits) in any area taught at the Elementary Education or Secondary Education levels AND a minimum of 12 credits in reading instruction
  • Two years of reading teaching experience in elementary, secondary, teaching adults (e.g., Technical or Community College), or teaching in Adult Basic Education, ESL, and/or Special Education
  • Experience in the areas of Adult Basic Education, ESL, and/or special needs
  • Minimum qualifications require meeting minimum requirements of both School of Academic Advancement and Madison College area offering the credit course for non-sector corequisite courses
Responsibilities
  • Responsible for instruction in the Adult Basic Education Reading program and providing basic education, developmental, and remedial instruction to underprepared students
  • Develop and plan appropriate instructional strategies and alternative delivery strategies including but not limited to hybrid, face-to-face and online course delivery
  • Participate in in-service meetings, convocation training, staff development trainings or other activities or programs requested by the Department
  • Assist and advise students with problems related to assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, evaluating student performance and maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling
  • Maintain competencies as an instructor as aligned with the Faculty Quality Assurance System
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the college’s mission, vision and values
