Requirements
  • Completion of a two-year Licensed Practical Nurse diploma from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration and good standing with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta.
  • At least one year of customer service experience.
  • Experience using electronic medical record software such as Med Access.
  • Strong communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong clinical, customer service, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in accordance with the Health Information Act and organizational privacy policies.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel.
  • Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • Vaccine Storage and Immunization training.
Responsibilities
  • Perform clinical interventions and medical procedures authorized by the physician and within the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures, pelvic examinations, and intrauterine device insertions and removals.
  • Perform physician-ordered point-of-care testing, including urinalysis, blood glucose testing, and pregnancy testing.
  • Administer injections and vaccinations.
  • Apply dressings, tensor bandages, splints, and slings.
  • Remove sutures and staples.
  • Perform ear irrigation.
  • Initiate oxygen therapy under physician direction.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, and visual acuity measurements.
  • Assemble and maintain sterile equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain orderly storage and appropriate disposal of clinic supplies.
  • Adhere to established standards of cleanliness and safety.
  • Greet and register patients professionally and courteously.
  • Schedule appointments and notify patients as required.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for physician assessment as required.
  • Accurately document procedures and interventions in patient charts.
  • Scan and file patient documentation as required.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and faxes as appropriate.
  • Complete assigned daily, weekly, and monthly chores.
  • Initiate forms, prepare billings, and collect payment for uninsured services.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new staff and students.
  • Maintain an understanding of physician preferences and workflows to provide effective support.
  • Participate in organizational initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
