- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required.
- A New York Registered Nurse license and registration are required.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- Demonstrate leadership ability, computer skills, knowledge of Outlook and Word, problem-solving ability, team-building techniques, effective communication skills, organizational skills, and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of department policies, standards, and age competencies is required.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements from the State Education Department, Department of Health, Infection Control, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration is required.
- Assess patients’ needs and adjust staffing accordingly.
- Assign or reassign staff based on competencies.
- Support nurse managers in unit management and leadership-skill development.
- Investigate issues, complete required reports, and communicate actions taken.
- Intervene in administrative problems as they arise.
- Investigate patient and family concerns, take action, follow through on corrections, and prepare timely reports.
- Consult with the Administrator on Call, Chief Nursing Officer, directors, and nurse managers when additional guidance is needed.
- Respond to emergency calls, including fires, codes, disaster drills, and trauma alerts.
- Provide leadership and direction in accordance with department goals and policies.
- Ensure patient access to advance directive and health care proxy information.
- Help develop systems that streamline processes, minimize resource utilization, and maximize efficiency.
- Remain available to address questions, ideas, and concerns.
- Communicate and coordinate with nursing units and the patient placement coordinator to expedite emergency department and post-anesthesia care unit admissions and in-house transfers.
- Seek solutions to identified problems.
- Consider financial impact when making decisions.
- Ensure purposeful rounding is completed and communicate concerns with the charge nurse or assistant nurse manager.
- Complete death report sheets, medical examiner case documentation, LONY documentation, and death-in-restraints forms.
- Participate in the terminal wean process as needed and complete the administrative note in the patient record.
- Complete other assigned tasks.
- A Master of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
